Papers of Archpriest John Chepeleff include correspondence, articles, clippings and manuscripts; papers relating the Federation of Russian Orthodox Clubs and the Clergy Pension Fund; affidavits and other legal papers concerning litigation over church property. Correspondents include Archbishop Platon, Archbishop Evdokim, Metropolitan Leonty, parish priests and church committees in Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey and elsewhere.

Born in Bessarabia, Father Chepeleff was ordained a priest after arrival in the U.S. in 1908 and served in various parishes. Returning to Russia on leave in 1914, he was unable to return to America until 1923, after which he again served parishes in the eastern U.S. He also held positions in the Church administration and was deeply involved in litigation against the Living Church movement.
